In Playa del Carmen

Hi everyone!

Well, we're here in Playa and loving it.  This really was the best thing for all of us after losing Chorney.  We're just having such a good time that we've hardly had a chance to miss her.

It's funny how things work, you know.  Mike (my son) and I were wading around in the ocean yesterday and he starts talking all about real estate here, about how you could start by buying one condo, renting it out, saving the money to buy a second condo, and go from there.  It was a good conversation - we covered infrastructure, economy, finances etc.

It was an interesting conversation because of all the family, he was the one who was most convinced that I'd lost my marbles for wanting to move here.  He was the one who rolled his eyes, laughed, tried to dissuade me with comments about crime and corruption, told people that I was crazy, and here he is telling me that he could definitely live here.  What a change of attitude that was!

Anyway, we're here and loving it.  Playing on the beach, in the ocean, in the pool, strolling along 5th Ave in the evenings, eating local food from hole in the wall places, and being a family.  These are the best times!

Wayne's web site reports the temperatures on that side of Mexico are extremely high. Is that your experience? I successfully completed my week in Melaque without air conditioning. I think I am actually going to be able to tolerate it -- as long as the ocean breezes keep up.

Bienvenidos a Playa!! Congrats on making the move! Isn't it funny how many people have these pre-conceived notions of Mexico, but when they get here, they just fall in love with it?! To Steve - Yes, it's very humid in the Riviera Maya this time of the year! It's a good time to be near a body of water -- the beautiful turquoise sea, the refreshingly cool cenotes, or a nice swimming pool!

Brenda: We are having a great time!! I'm just sorry we'll have to leave on Saturday and go home to life.

Steve: It's been very humid and hot here, but we've kept cool with dips in the pool, and hanging out at the beach enjoying the breeze. We've also been keeping all the windows open during the day allowing the breeze to flow through and using the air conditioning at night. It's liveable! I think we're all adapting too. The first day the kids had a hard time, but by today they hardly seem to notice the humidity!

Cynthia - You know it! It's been wonderful having the time to be a family. At home we're all so busy with this and that. Here we've had the chance to enjoy each other's company again!

Libby - No move yet, just a vacation. But I've got to tell you that I'm really loving Playa! I keep checking out the windows of the real estate agencies seeing what they've got available!

Welcome to Mexico!

Note from other comments:
Okay, we are here on Pacific Coast for 1st mnth and using our air conditioner units in rooms we are in at the moment. Are we going to be shocked when we get our electric bill?
